Start with a high-adhesion primer and either epoxy or latex paint.<\/li>\n<li>Remove clutter from the countertop, tub, and top of\u00a0toilet. Add a desk to create a mini office, or a chair and\u00a0small\u00a0bookshelf for a reading nook.<\/li>\n<li>Swap dim lights for high-wattage bulbs.<\/li>\n<li>Check every door, drawer, and cabinet to ensure they open and close easily. Swap out any faulty \u2014 or dingy \u2014 hardware.<\/li>\n<li>Damaged or aging hardwood floors? Replace damaged boards with new wood, sand down the entire floor, and re-stain.<\/li>\n<li>Do a deep (deep, deep) clean.
